South Carolina
Under the cover of darkness, we ride into the center of a cluster of dark buildings. There are no streetlights. It looks deserted. What a sorry place to spend our last night on the road, but then again, we have seen worse.
A storm is expected and we appreciate having shelter for the night. Thunder rumbles somewhere in the distance. We keep the tents holstered on the bikes. No matter how many times I wash them, my clothes will not get clean and my sleeping bag really reeks, but I can manage for a few more days. Most of my equipment is a step or two away from the garbage. I’ve had enough of the junk food and so many nights in the stinking tent with Gary. To make matters worse, it’s warm tonight and we are without showers again.
